Storm Summary and Projection:
Hurricane Summary POSTED: September 18, 2014 8:24 p.m. Edouard Weakens into a Tropical Storm Edouard has weakened this afternoon and is now a tropical storm centered well to the west-northwest of the western islands of the Azores. This weakening can be attributed to the fact that the system has been encountering increased wind shear and cooler ocean waters as it races eastward along the periphery of a ridge over the central Atlantic. Edouard is expected to continue to weaken in the coming days and transition into a non-tropical feature by either Friday or Saturday. Despite this, it will still be capable of producing heavy rainfall and gusty winds in the Azores this weekend. Elsewhere, while there are multiple tropical waves progressing across the Atlantic Basin, none appear to be a threat for imminent development. A tropical wave exiting off the west coast of Africa will need to be closely monitored for development over the next few days, however, as it progresses into a more conducive environment for tropical development.
