Storm Summary and Projection:
Hurricane Summary POSTED: September 1, 2015 11:04 p.m. Fred Still a Tropical Storm and Moving Farther Away From the Cape Verde Islands In A Hurry Tropical Storm Fred is still moving to the northwest and farther away from the Cape Verde Islands. Heavy rain and strong winds completely ended over the islands Tuesday. Drier air and unfavorable wind shear in the path of Fred should slowly weaken the tropical cyclone and Fred could become a depression in a couple of days. Later this week, Fred will cross an area of warmer waters while at the same time upper-level shear will lessen, so it is not completely out of the question that Fred tries to reorganize. Eventually Fred will be steered to the north into the open waters of the central Atlantic this weekend. Heavy rainfall will continue across parts of northern Florida and the southeastern United States for the next couple of days as moisture once associated with Erika sits over the region. This includes parts of Georgia and southern parts of South Carolina. This can result in flash flooding in some locations. A disturbance moving east of North Carolina will support the development of a surface low northeast of Bermuda this weekend. A look at projected water temperatures and shear suggest this low pressure area could be over marginally warm water and in an environment of low shear and adequate moisture. If these favorable environmental conditions do set up in and around this developing low pressure area, it's possible this system could become a subtropical or tropical storm late in the weekend or early next week. All indications are that if a storm like this were to develop it would not impact the U.S. and might even steer clear of Atlantic Canada. Elsewhere, there are no immediate concerns for tropical development. By AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Bob Smerbeck and Updated by AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Jack Boston
